A Partner at the firm, Janine’s practice focuses exclusively in labour, employment and human rights law. She is an experienced litigator who provides strategic and practical solutions to complex human resources matters.
Janine has a broad knowledge of human resources issues including employment standards, collective agreement administration, attendance and performance management, human rights and accommodation, contract drafting and negotiation, workplace investigations, discipline and dismissals.
Prior to joining Loopstra Nixon, Janine worked as in-house counsel at large national corporations where she regularly represented management before arbitrators, labour boards, courts and human rights tribunals at both the provincial and federal level. Janine conducts training for various levels of management and human resources professionals
Janine has served on the board of directors for a not-for-profit corporation and has taught for the Ontario Engineers Society and Seneca College in contract law, employment law and alternate dispute resolution. Janine continues to serve as an adjunct professor, teaching Alternate Dispute Resolution at Seneca College’s School of Legal, Public and Office Administration.
Janine has a law degree from Queen’s University. During law school, she received the Baker & McKenzie award for academic achievement in labour law. Prior to law school, Janine completed an Honours Specialized Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from York University.
