We represent expropriating authorities as well as private landowners in all expropriation matters.

We have experience conducting expropriation process, including the statutory requirements under the Expropriations Act, hearings of necessity, negotiated agreements in lieu of expropriation. We also guide our clients in the valuation process—including claims for market value, injurious affection, and disturbance damages—and the dispute resolution process, including Board of Negotiation hearings, private arbitrations, arbitrations at the Ontario Municipal Board and, if necessary, appeals to the Divisional Court.

It is important for expropriating authorities to properly budget the expropriation costs and to effectively negotiate settlements.

We provide the necessary support to ensure that the proper process and pragmatic approach is used to secure the best result for both parties cost-effectively.

We help landowners maximize the compensation payable pursuant to the Expropriations Act while fully utilizing all valuation tools available at the expense of the expropriation authority.
