We represent expropriating authorities as well as private landowners in all expropriation matters.

We are familiar with all aspects of the expropriation process. This includes the statutory requirements under the Expropriations Act, hearings of necessity, negotiated agreements in lieu of expropriation, the valuation process—including claims for market value, injurious affection, and disturbance damages—and the dispute resolution process, including Board of Negotiation hearings, private arbitrations, arbitrations at the Ontario Municipal Board and if necessary, appeals to the Divisional Court.

For expropriating authorities, it is important to be able to properly budget for the cost of expropriation and attempt to negotiate reasonable settlements.

We provide the necessary support to ensure that the proper process and pragmatic approach is used to secure the best result for both parties in a cost effective manner.

For landowners, we are able to maximize the compensation payable pursuant to the Expropriations Act while fully utilizing all of the valuation tools available at the expense of the expropriation authority.
