Bio

Jeysa is a banking and finance lawyer who advises financial institutions and corporate clients on the structuring, negotiation and documentation of commercial financing and complex secured lending transactions.

Jeysa Martinez is a corporate and commercial lawyer with extensive experience in banking and financial services, commercial financing and secured transactions. She represents financial institutions, lenders, borrowers and corporate clients in the structuring, negotiation and documentation of complex financing and business transactions, with particular experience acting as external counsel to banks and other financial institutions.

Her financing practice includes asset-based lending, real estate and construction lending, project finance, asset securitization and other secured credit facilities. Jeysa regularly advises on the structuring of security and the negotiation and preparation of credit facility agreements, commitment letters, loan agreements, guarantees and security documentation. She also acts on financings involving specialized and high-value collateral, with significant experience representing banks in connection with the acquisition and financing of aircrafts and luxury yachts.

Jeysa maintains a broad corporate and commercial practice that includes corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions of businesses, commercial real estate transactions, debt and private equity transactions, due diligence and commercial leasing. She also has significant experience in financing and commercial transactions involving First Nations, including on-reserve and off-reserve developments and leases and subleases involving First Nations lands. Her leasing experience includes arrangements supporting solar and wind energy projects.

Prior to joining Loopstra Nixon, Jeysa led the Banking and Financial Services Group at a well-established Toronto boutique firm that acts primarily for banks and other financial institutions. Earlier in her career, she practised at global and national law firms and served as in-house counsel at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Outside the office, Jeysa has long been active in her community, contributing her time through board and volunteer roles with health care, cancer support and disability organizations. She also enjoys travelling, gardening and golf, and shares her daughter’s passion for live theatre.
