Bio

Michael Segal was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1976. From 1998 to 2005, he served as one of the instructors for the commercial law section of the Bar Admissions Course for the Law Society of Upper Canada in Ottawa. In October 2004, he received the Certified Specialist designation in Corporate and Commercial Law from the Law Society of Ontario. In 2010, Michael completed the Mediation Program at Harvard University.

Moreover, he has been actively involved in various legal associations and committees. Michael served as Chair of the Ottawa branch and was a member of the national board of directors of S.T.E.P. Canada. Additionally, he currently holds the outgoing chair position of the business law section of the OBA (Ontario Bar Association) and sat as a member of the Ethics Committee of the Canadian Bar Association. He also served as a member of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Canadian Bar Association.

Michael has presented papers and delivered lectures on different aspects of business law to various groups. In 2018 and 2019, he co-chaired the OBA Commercial Agreements Workshop. Furthermore, he co-chaired the OBA institute in 2021, which was a joint program between the business, family, and trust and estate sections of the OBA.

In addition to his legal pursuits, Michael is active in the coach and advisor program under the Law Society of Ontario. His legal practice is restricted to corporate and commercial matters, as well as tax and estate planning and related issues.

Outside of the legal realm, Michael has expressed a passion for scuba diving and photography, both above and below water.
