Loopstra Nixon Successfully Defends Mayor of Richmond Hill in High-Profile Conflict of Interest Case

Loopstra Nixon is proud to announce the successful defence and complete vindication of Richmond Hill Mayor Dave Barrow in a high-profile conflict of interest case brought by a rival candidate for Mayor and  won by a litigation team led by Charles Loopstra, Q.C. and Daron Earthy.

The case concerned a controversial motion brought by a councilor, who is also a candidate for Mayor,  calling on Mayor Barrow to personally repay expenditures incurred by the city that were alleged to have exceeded an approved budget. In his decision, Justice Mark Edwards of the Ontario Superior Court stated that there was no “over-expenditure” and no factual or legal basis for the motion which “had as its sole purpose, the creation of an appearance of impropriety” and that the motion was a nullity.
