Bio

Raj Johal’s practice covers a broad range of civil and commercial matters. He has acted for individuals and businesses in a variety of disputes, including breach of contract, construction and real estate matters, commercial and residential leasing, shareholder and partnership disputes, professional negligence, debt enforcement, provincial offences, and estate litigation.

Raj brings a pragmatic and nuanced approach to his clients’ cases. Individuals, small businesses, and large corporations alike count on his dedication, diligence, and astute thinking when it comes to meeting their legal needs. He regularly advises clients on how best to resolve and avoid disputes before they materialize into formal proceedings. His creative and practical approach has resulted in efficient and favourable outcomes for his clients. Raj also has experience obtaining extraordinary equitable and pre-judgment remedies, including Mareva injunctions and certificates of pending litigation.

Raj has represented clients in proceedings before the Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Justice, Estates Court, and the Landlord and Tenant Board.

Raj holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, graduating cum laude and on the Dean’s List. While at Ottawa Law, he served as a Legal Writing Leader with the Point-First Legal Writing Academy and as a Teaching Assistant for the Alternative Dispute Resolution practicum. Before attending law school, Raj studied Criminology at York University.

Before joining Loopstra Nixon, Raj articled and practiced at a full-service firm in downtown Toronto.

When not reading up on the law or advocating on behalf of his clients, Raj can be found spending time with his family, keeping up with Toronto sports, or attempting a new fitness regime.
